PER SE (ESSENTIALLY, SUBSTANTIALLY, THROUGH ITSELF)

сущностно, субстанциально, через себя, само по себе; то существует через себя, что не имеет бытия ни в чем ином, как только в самом себе; любая субстанция существует сама по себе. Выражение a se означает то, что не требует причины для своего существования: один только Бог является a se. В английском языке отсюда образовались термины perseity (отрицание зависимости от чего-то) и aseity (отрицание даже зависимости от производящей причины). Согласно Фоме Аквинскому, «что бы не существовало в вещи через себя, это исходит из ее сущности, или из сущностных принципов, из которых следуют... причины различения вещей... „Сущностно" - это то, что согласуется с самой природой вещи или в силу ее внутренних принципов» (Thomas Aquinas. Quaest. disp. de pot. q. 10, a. 4 concl.).
